The Finest Historic Motorsport Event in the World
Enough said. The title says it all. This is indeed the most all-encompassing motor vehicle event the world has ever seen. The next edition in 2016 will be the 24th chapter in the Goodwood Revival history book. Given how tremendous this last edition has been, expectations will be high for this next edition. From Daytona Cobras from the 1960s to 22 Spitfires to mark the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain, to an emotional farewell to the Land Rover Defender and a cigar being offered to the chap who finishes atop the podium, it’s all there. There was even historically accurate confectionary on sale in the 1950s Tesco supermarket. Everything was there to make you feel nostalgic about bygone eras.
There is also talk that the St Mary’s Trophy on the Saturday was perhaps the best Revival in history, with nine-time Le Mans winner Tom Kristensen going from last to first place in a Ford Fairlane Thunderbolt, all the while he battled rather speedy Lotus Cortinas. The RAC TT Celebration race was also a great opportunity to see some Cobras in action. Boy are those cars sexy. They fought rather well against the Ferrari 250 GT and the 250 LM. All in all, this was a pretty epic event, one which was sure to pique the interest of anyone remotely interested in Britain’s glorious love story with the combustion engine.
